Day 4 Morning: A Trip Around Northern Taiwan
When we say a trip around “Northern Taiwan”, we really mean it. We went to so many places while travelling up to the northern tip of Taiwan, and then back through a different route. Starting from Taipei, we drove north through the mountains towards Yangmingshan National Park.
During our journey up the mountain, we stopped by a calla lily farm. It was perfect timing, because April is their season to bloom. There were tons of white storks and songbirds around as well.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3345″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3346″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]Then, we continued our trek up the mountainous region to Qixing Mountain, the highest dormant volcano in Taiwan, located at the center of Yangmingshan National Park. This mountain has faults running across its southeast and northwest contours, where hot springs and fumaroles exist. We were able to capture a few pictures of the volcano, as well as some stunning views![/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3351″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3349″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]Next stop: Yehliu Geopark! Basically, this geopark is a collection of sedimentary rocks that have been shaped by the impact of sea erosion. Due to the differential erosion caused by weathering, a lot of the rocks there had a honeycomb effect, which looks like holes in the rocks. But, the main attraction of Yehliu Geopark is the Queen’s Head, a rock that is shaped like a head. We spent a couple of hours here just waiting to take a picture with the Queen, but we finally made it!
